Murakami Japanese Restaurant

Who doesn't love ramen, sushi, katsu and other Japanese food? Probably because of the ramen craze that hit the Philippines one or two years ago that made Pinoys love Japanese cuisine more than ever. Let's admit that Japanese food is one of the expensive foods here in the country. But, you don't need to throw away your money just to try authentic Japanese food. Murakami Japanese Restaurant offers affordable and delicious ramen, sushi, sashimi, and more! Like this beauty here, Murakami Kani Salad that cost only ₱110. It taste good, refreshing because of the cucumber, and the ingredients are fresh.

We've heard of Murakami Japanese Restaurant in Pop Talk, a TV show that reviews restaurants, places, gadgets and more. When we had an opportunity, we made sure that we get to try Murakami. It's not a short or either long drive from Fairview/Novaliches going to Marikina City, we went there purposely. This one here is their Jumbo Gyoza which is ₱105, it taste fair enough, I'm not a big fan of gyoza.

The restaurant is a bit small, I think it only has 5-7 tables. And has a parking space for two or more, this is a necessity for diners if the restaurants are not located inside a mall. My favorite food in Murakami is California Roll that costs ₱130. It's a must try, it's really delicious, fresh, has lots of fish roe, and rolled perfectly.

Now we go to their Ramen choices, they are proud that their ramen is authentic Tonkotsu which is made from pork bones, boiled more than 15 hours, breaking down the collagen, marrow and fat, unleashing a creamy whitish liquid. This Shoyu Ramen costs ₱130 for a snack size, shoyu means soy sauce.

What we have here is Murakami Miso Ramen snack size which i₱130. The snack size is good for one person while the regular size that costs ₱180 is good for two.

This Rich Tonkotsu Ramen is so savory, very rich indeed in terms of flavor!!! The snack size cost ₱200 while the regular is ₱280. Murakami's ramen is also a thumbs up, it's not the fast-food kinda ramen, rich in ingredients, and so delicious!!!

Murakami Japanese Restaurant has an ample selection of Bento Box meals. Their bento box contains the main protein, fried rice, side veggies, and a regular red iced tea. This is their Pork Katsu Bento Box that costs ₱180.

Shrimp & Veggie Tempura Bento Box cost ₱200.

Cordon Bleu Bento Box costs ₱165.

Here is Murakami's menu or food selection. As you can see their prices is affordable compared to other Japanese restaurants here in Metro Manila.

Our dining experience in Murakami Restaurant is awesome! In terms of food presentation, taste, serving size and price, you won't be disappointed. The place though is a bit small and hot, while the staff is just okay, not that courteous or anything rude. My family and I were definitely going back to this place to enjoy affordable and yummy Japanese food!!!

Famous Gotohan in Fairview

Look at this monstrous goto or lugaw (rice porridge), it's so full of toppings, you can hardly see the porridge itself. This is Famous Gotohan's popular food, their Super Special Lugaw which only costs ₱60.

Before I give you my review of Famous Gotohan's Super Special Lugaw, let's check first their menu. They have a descent selection of goto or lugaw and some side dishes to partner it. What is the difference of lugaw and goto? Lugaw is just plain rice porridge that has garlic, onions, ginger and sometimes safflower (kasubha). While Goto, is lugaw with innards of either beef or pork, the usual Goto has beef tripe.

Aside from goto, they also offer paluto dishes like Pancit, Sisig, and more. Famous Gotohan also offers a variety of cooked Filipino dishes such as Adobo, Menudo, Bistek, and more. Famous Gotohan is located at 3 Daisy St., Fairview, Novaliches, Quezon City, they are near at Falcon Learning Center and Phoenix Gasoline Station.

My verdict for Famous Gotohan's Super Special Lugaw is two thumbs up! It is delicious, filling, the serving is a lot, and the price is cheap but it doesn't compromise the taste. Super Special Lugaw is goto that has beef tripe then topped with a hard-boiled egg, fried tofu, crispy pork chunks, fried garlic, spring onions, and a piece of kalamansi. I really love the toppings, especially the crispy pork chunks, it's so tasty and really crispy. The goto itself is so thick, less on the soupy side, a bit salty for my taste, and it complements all of its toppings. We will definitely go back to this place soon!

Woongjin Dr. Aloe Drink

My first time to try an Aloe Vera juice drink, and its good!!! Dr. Aloe Premium Aloe Drink is produced by Woongjin Foods, a South Korean company. Aloe drink is one of the many non-alcoholic drinks that Koreans love, others were Banana Milk, Flavored Tea, Yogurt drinks, and more.

Dr. Aloe juice drink which is 500ml costs ₱55. And it can be bought on any Korean groceries or even in some of our local groceries here in Manila.

Drinking aloe vera flavored drink seems like drinking water because of its plainness and of course the transparency, except that it has aloe vera bits! The taste is wonderful, it is lightly sweetened with a bit of sourness, and the aloe vera bits were really good!!!

I’ll be back soon with more interesting post!

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar River Cruise

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a Heritage Park in Bagac, Bataan that showcases colonial era houses. Let me share you our family adventure!!!

There are activities that you can do in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, and one of which is the River Cruise. You can witness the stunning view of Las Casas from the calm waters of Umagol River.

The Las Casas River Cruise costs ₱500 per person and each balsa or raft can accommodate maximum of 8 persons only. However, if you avail The Las Casas All Day Tour, the river cruise at Umagol River is already included. The cruise schedule is from 8AM-4PM.

The best time to ride the cruise is at 8AM while the weather is not too hot. Don't worry too much of the heat because umbrellas and hats were provided during the cruise.

The notable and majestic part of the cruise is the Estero De Binondo, the feel it gives, it's like we were in Venice riding a Gondola!!!

The cruise is roughly a 45-minute ride, you will not get bored because aside from the view and taking pictures or videos, the boatman is giving an educational yet entertaining introduction about the ancestral houses and the heritage park itself.

Travel once in a while and enjoy!!!

NESTEA Milk Tea Winter Melon

This is the new star in the juice section of any grocery stores here in the metro, the NESTEA Milk Tea. Our favorite tea paired with Nestle Milk. You don't need to go out to buy your favorite milk tea, just stock-up your pantry all you want, and enjoy it anytime in the comfort of your home.

NESTEA Milk Tea has three flavors, Winter Melon, Thai Style, and Hokkaido Style. Hopefully I can review all NESTEA Milk Tea flavors in the future. What we've tried so far is NESTEA Milk Tea Winter Melon. Winter Melon is also known as gourd, white gourd, or ash gourd, but it is commonly known to us Filipinos as kundol. Winter Melon is one of the top flavors that we love in a milk tea.

So are you wondering how much this sachet of Winter Melon Milk Tea costs...? You can buy it in your leading grocery stores for ₱10 per sachet and
₱13 in convenient stores. My verdict for NESTEA Milk Tea Winter Melon is two thumbs up!!! It's affordable, easy to prepare, and it tastes so good!!! The sweetness of winter melon blends well with the tea and milk.

Ham and Mushroom Quesadillas Recipe

$

Quesadilla is a Mexican food made of tortillas that are filled with cheese and sometimes with meat, vegetables, fruits and more. Who doesn't love cheese...? That's why this snack is so famous around the globe and even here in the Philippines.

I created my own version of Pinoy Quesadillas, here's my recipe of Ham and Mushroom Quesadillas.

What you'll need:
Flour tortillas (can be brought in the bread section of supermarkets)
Grated Cheese (any brand will do, depends in your budget)
Ham, diced
1 Bell pepper, chopped
1 small White onion, chopped
Canned or fresh Mushrooms
Cheese sauce or sour cream for toppings

How to do it:

1. Stir-fry onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms in a little olive oil for about a minute or two. Do not overcook it.
2. Prepare to cook the tortillas. Layer your ingredients in this manner, tortillas, cheese, ham, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, and cover it with another tortilla.
3. Next is to cook it over low-medium heat in a flat pan.
4. You'll know that it's ready when the cheese starts to melt and the tortillas have some burn marks. Flip it to cook the other side.
5. Cut it in pizza or triangle portions, drizzle with sour cream or cheese sauce. Serve it while it's warm.

Cooking Tip: it tastes good when you use green bell peppers!

McFlurry with Oreo Matcha

We were in the talk of the town McDonald's branch in Tagaytay City when we tried their McFlurry with Oreo Matcha. Oreo Matcha Sundae plus the Taal Volcano view is just relaxing! They're right in saying that McDonald's Tagaytay is splendid, the view and fixtures were stunning. However, it was Bonifacio Day when went so the place is extremely crowded.

It was my first time to try a green-tea flavored ice cream, and McFlurry with Oreo Matcha didn't disappoint me. The fusion of Oreo cookie bits and green tea is perfect! Yes it's a bit sweet, just don't devour on it. McFlurry with Oreo Matcha price is ₱55. I cannot say anything else, I just love it!!!

NESTEA Milk Tea Thai Style

Here's another variant of the new Nestea Milk Tea here in the Philippines, Nestea Milk Tea Thai Style. Honestly, I already tasted this drink a couple of years ago, my sister had a short vacation trip in Thailand and this is one of her pasalubong to us.

Milk Tea Thai Style has a bright red orange color, it's the signature characteristic of Thai Tea. NESTEA Milk Tea Thai Style also tastes good just like the NESTEA Milk Tea Winter Melon flavor. It differs in texture, Thai Style is more thick, heavy and creamy.

One sachet is good only for a glass of water and it
costs ₱10. You can enjoy this drink hot or cold, however, I suggest to dissolve the drink mix in lukewarm water first before adding cold water or ice.

That's it, that's my short yet informative review of Nestea Milk Tea Thai Style. I hope to also try the Hokkaido Style Milk Tea next time.

Keep reading. Keep learning. Keep having fun.

Selecta Chocolate Mud Pie Ice Cream

Rich chocolate ice cream oozing with salted caramel sauce and choco cookie crust pieces, this is one of the new holiday flavors of Selecta Ice Cream, the Chocolate Mud Pie Ice Cream. The other new flavors were Brazo de Mercedes and Avocado Crumble.

The chocolate ice cream tastes good as always, the salted caramel sauce is sweet and slightly gooey, while the choco cookie crust pieces is sugary and a bit firm. The combination is tip-top, however I just wish that the cookie crust pieces were less stony.

The price of Selecta Chocolate Mud Pie Ice Cream 1.5L size is
245. And the calories in Selecta Chocolate Mud Pie is 110 Calories per 100ml serving according to the packaging. All in all is tastes good and value for money is a thumbs up.

Life is sweet, indulge!

2018 Philippine Holidays

Pasalubong from Quezon Province

$

Quezon Province has a diverse tourism offering, from their captivating beaches, colorful festivals, heritage food and recipes, and many more! I know for a fact that when we wander in new places, we tend to buy some souvenirs or pasalubong so we can take home a little bit of their culture. Here are some affordable pasalubong that you can buy when you visit the Province of Quezon.

Broas or Ladyfingers is Sariaya, Quezon's specialty. It's a sponge biscuit shaped like a large finger. This Broas from Victoria Cadiz' Bakery in Quezon Ave., Sariaya, Quezon costs ₱60 per pack.

Pinagong Bread is probably the famous pasalubong from Sariaya, Quezon. The locals sell in the streets during day time and they also ascend to some buses to vend it. Pinagong is a dense bread, it's name is supposedly comes from the word "pagong" which means turtle in English because of its shape and texture which is a bit hard outside and soft in the inside. The prominent bakeries that sells Pinagong in Sariaya were Villadiego's Bakery that sells it for ₱37 per pack and Victoria Cadiz' Bakery which is ₱38 per pack.

Shing-a-ling is a fried snack that is made from dried and fried pancit miki noodles. Based on my quick research, Shing-a-ling originated from Laguna province and invented by the Perolina Family. Nevertheless, I bought this pack of Shing-a-ling for only ₱15 at Villadiego's Bakery Pasalubong, it's very cheap in here, because this same size can be bought as high as ₱50 here in Metro Manila. Na Ide Perolina's Shing-a-ling is just delicious, crunchy, tasty, and not so salty, it is the most delicious Shing-a-ling that I have tasted so far.

There are still more pasalubong goodies and souvenirs that Quezon has to offer, like Kakanin (rice cakes) such as Budin, Suman, Sinukmani, Tikoy, Pastries like Apas, Kalibkib, Uraro, and many more!!! I hope to try them all next time!!!

Smile, eat, and relax!!!

Wings and Wedges Restaurant

Wings and Wedges is a small yet cozy restaurant located at SM City Fairview. Obviously they specializes in chicken wings and potato wedges, however, they also serve salads, burgers, pizza, pasta and more. My husband and I dine here after our stroll at the mall. It's my second time to dine at Wings & Wedges while, it's a first time for my husband.

We ordered 2 Pieces Famous Wings + Wedges in Spicy Chipotle Barbecue Sauce for ₱189. The chicken wings were well-cooked which I love, it's crispy on the outside, the spicy chipotle barbecue sauce was so tasty, the spiciness was just right, and it was seasoned generously. The Potato Wedges were just as yummy as the wings, real potatoes drenched in their herb and seasonings. A super thumbs-up meal!!!

Our next order was their Creamy Pesto with Italian Sausage Pasta that costs 159. We both love any pesto pasta, honestly we had a favorite pasta restaurant that serves Seafood Pesto, and unfortunately they closed a couple of years ago. Going back to Wings & Wedges Creamy Pesto Pasta, fettuccine noodles mixed with their creamy pesto sauce and Italian Sausage, and then topped with Parmesan cheese and parsley, served with a side of toast. It tastes perfect, it's so creamy, the sausage is yummy, and the pesto sauce was just right! We will definitely dine in Wings & Wedges again and hopefully to try their pizza next time! For more info you can visit Wings & Wedges FB Page.

AREN'T YOU DISGUSTED BY SEEING IT?

$

I don't know what motivation do you need before you wake up and accept that there is something wrong in your life and you need to do something about it. I don't know if you are just lazy or dumb or do you already accept that your life will be like that forever. You have the power to change, it's your life, you can do anything with it. it's either you get better or get worse.

Seeing no food in the refrigerator and seeing your children hungry.  This is disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourself if you're letting your children to go hungry, what kind of a parent are you? It's ok if you're the one who's hungry but not your children. It's your fault so you should blame yourself, you should sell the other half of our kidney and buy them some food.

Seeing no money in your wallet. It's because of laziness and being irresponsible, seeing no money in your wallet is not an excuse, what if something bad happens? what will you do? you should have always a reserve money in your wallet because life can throw you a random joke and you may not be able to handle it if you're not prepared.

Seeing your things getting old and you can't replace it. It's not about being thrifty or responsible for your money, if your things were already broken because it's more than ten years old... that's a different story, being smart in handling your money is different than no money to spend for your basic needs. Get disgusted if your shoes is already 10 years old, it's smiling and you can't replace it.

Seeing people not treating you right and talking at your back that you don't have anything. This is one of the worst feelings that you could ever get... having no power, people are not treating your right because you don't have anything, they are treating you like garbage, they are making fun of you and you can't fight back.

Seeing your parents suffering and you can't send them to hospital. This is what will happen if your life is not stable... your life will be full of pain, get disgusted with situation like this because you can always avoid it from the very beginning if you only did the right thing.

A new twist from Pizza Hut, their Pan Pizza + Empanadais Pizzanada! Pizzanada has three tempting flavors, Cheesy Hotdog Pizzanada, 3-Cheese Bacon Pizzanada, and as you can see the best-seller Beef Shawarma Pizzanada. You can buy any of these Pizzanada flavors for ₱49 each.

We ate the two flavors, Cheesy Hotdog and 3-Cheese Bacon, both are yummy and savory, but I like the 3-Cheese Bacon flavor more. It's totally a combination of pan pizza and empanada! The serving size though is a bit small for its 49 price.

Yabu: The House of Katsu - Chicken Katsudon Set

$

Unlimited Miso Soup, Japanese koshihikari rice, crisp & fresh organic sliced cabbage, and fresh fruits, that's the inclusion in this wonderful and authentic Japanese katsudon meal. This is Chicken Katsudon Set Meal from Yabu: The House of Katsu.

A tidbit of info, Katsudon is a popular Japanese dish, it's a combination of Tonkatsu (a breaded, deep-fried meat) and Donburi (a rice bowl dish).

Before you start to munch this gorgeous meal, you start first by preparing your sesame tonkatsu sauce, it's a Yabu ritual. First, you need to grind the roasted sesame seeds (mind you the aroma is so appetizing). Then you pour the katsu sauce (ideally add two scoops), mix it, and dip your tonkatsu!

Yabu's Chicken Katsudon is a total deal, the Japanese kohishikari rice is a bit sticky and filling, the chicken tonkatsu is tender, crispy yet still juicy, eggs are cooked just right, and the sweet & savory soy glaze is best!

The side dishes which were the Miso Soup and Sliced Cabbage were also amazing and it's refillable as well as the rice. The Sliced Cabbage is unforgettable, it's so fresh and crisp. You can drizzle it with three dressing choices, Yabu's Goma (roasted sesame), Wasabi and Shoyu Vinaigrette.

This Chicken Katsudon Set is priced at ₱390 without a drink. This is also available in other meat choices like Rosu (porkloin)Hire (tenderloin), and Prawn & Cream Dory.

You can check on Yabu: The House of Katsu Facebook Page for additional info.

Hua Mulan Combs

$

This is a Hua Mulan Wood Integrated Ebony Comb, looks sleek right...? This wooden hair comb costs ₱430, but I purchased it at ₱344 because it has a 20% discount. I know it's pricey compared to plastic combs that I usually had before, especially during my childhood days. Honestly, we can buy hair combs for only ₱10 easily at our local markets, and it is everywhere.

What is the difference of Hua Mulan Wooden Combs for it to costs that much?

- Hua Mulan Combs are hand-made and made of 100% natural materials.

- They used high-quality woods and materials such as Sandalwood, Rose wood, Peach wood, Yellow Willow wood, Ox Horn and Goat Horn.

- All the carvings and paintings on the combs are made by hand.

What are its advantages compared to conventional plastic or metal combs?

- It can minimize hair fall and breakage for they have lesser friction.

- Hua Mulan Combs can stimulate the scalp to promote circulation and release of our hairs' natural oil making our hair healthier and grow faster. They can also reduce stress and relive headache.

- Horn combs made from ox and goat horns can minimize the sprouting of gray hair if used often, can help in reducing neurasthenia, fever and rheumatism, lower blood pressure, and detoxify.

Those were the reasons that's why I bought this Wood Integrated Ebony Comb that is made from Yellow willow wood and Red Sandalwood. Actually, I was hesitant to buy at first, but I did :)

Wishing to have another Hua Mulan Comb in the future, but next time I would like to have one of their Ox Horn or Goat Horn Combs.

How to take care of wooden combs?

- Avoid dropping it often. The reason is obvious, they are made from woods so they are more breakable.

- Do not soak it in water. You can still use it on your wet hair but wipe it with a dry cloth afterwards.

- Place it on the pouch (which is included in some combs) to avoid damaging the bristles especially when it is placed inside your bag.

Tip: do not buy lightly colored wooden combs because they become dirty so easily and the dirt stains.

Keep improving yourself!

YOU WERE SO FOCUSED ON WINNERS AND LOSERS THAT IS WHY YOU CAN'T WIN

$
0
0
The reason why you can't win in life is because you were so focused on winners and losers, you are not focusing on winning, your mind is scattered like a broken glass that cannot be fixed anymore. You don't have time for yourself but you have a lot of time for other people. You are not investing on yourself, you should groom yourself and make your life better everyday so you will experience true happiness.

YOU'RE SO FOCUSED ON WINNERS. You always watch the lives of people who are succeeding, you guarding all of their actions, studying them, sometimes you are even jealous of their success. You want to be like them but you can't even get started, you're always checking them, you don't have time for yourself anymore that's why you can't learn by yourself. Everyday, you're struggling because your confidence is slowly going down because you don't have any references to refer to if you need something about a particular situation.

Stop focusing on winners, stop guarding every activity that they're doing, stop idolizing them because you can idolize yourself, you too can reach the highest mountain, you too can become the best version of yourself. You will become a winner if you will choose to, it's all in your hands, it's all in your mindset. You become anything you want, all it takes is hard work and dedication. Be committed to your dream and everything you need will follow, you will attract success as easy as 1 2 3.

YOU'RE SO FOCUSED ON LOSERS. You hate them but you talk about them, you are making fun of them, you are criticizing them. Sometimes you feel sorry for them, but that's just a waste of time too, you need to focus on your own life because focusing on other people's lives makes you a loser too.

Own your time, don't share it with others, stop watching other people's work, stop minding them because the time you wasted could have been used to improve your life and make yourself a winner too.

Be selfish with your time, use it wisely, give it to people who really matters, give it to someone who will also help you to become successful. Use it to learn and grow, focus on the things that will give you success, money or real happiness, not just a fake and short term happiness.

Your happiness will rely on your growth, you will achieve it if you're seeing yourself progressing everyday.
